There is a particular kind of quiet panic that creeps in around AI. But when we actually look at how AI is being adopted inside real organisations, by real professionals doing real work, a very different picture emerges. Most people are still somewhere between curious and confused. The ones getting genuine value are not the earliest adopters. They are the ones with enough domain expertise to ask useful questions — and they mostly got started in the last twelve months.

AI tools are generalists. They can produce a competent first draft of almost anything, in almost any style, on almost any topic. But they have no idea which draft is right for your particular client, your particular industry, your particular regulatory context, your particular team's tolerance for risk. That judgement lives in your head. And no amount of prompt fluency substitutes for it.
Think about what a senior marketing director actually does well. It is not writing generic copy. It is knowing that this brand will never say "dive deep," that this CEO dislikes exclamation marks, that last quarter's campaign under-indexed with a specific audience, that the legal team pushes back on any claim about speed. That context is worth enormous amounts when paired with AI — and worth nothing without it.
The same applies in law, finance, HR, operations, healthcare administration, education, engineering, project management, and every other specialist discipline. The professionals producing the most useful AI output are the ones who can look at a draft and immediately say "this sentence is wrong for our context, here is what it needs to be instead." That is domain expertise. That is what you have. A 24-year-old with excellent prompt skills cannot replicate it in a weekend.
From what we've seen, a senior professional who spends a few focused weeks applying AI to work they already know tends to produce sharper, more trustworthy output than someone with more hours logged but no depth in the subject. Your depth shortens the learning curve. You already know what good looks like — you only need to learn how to get AI to produce more of it.
